Nesting Instincts is a lifestyle brand established by three sisters who are passionate about creating beautiful spaces. The name, Nesting Instincts, refers to the process undertaken by birds as they build their nest. Petit a Petit L’oiseau fait son nid translates from the French: Little by little, the bird builds its nest.
That phrase encapsulates our experience and philosophy: thoughtful collecting of unique objects to feather one’s nest. The sisters have been collecting and curating for over thirty years and are now beginning to share their ideas and collections through their website and pop-ups.
Divisions are organized by inspiration that comes from finding beauty in all of their favorite places— The sea, wooded hollows, lavender fields and French flea markets!

Curated Collections
A passion for collecting, across genre and time...
We are obsessed! We have been collecting shells and other treasures from beaches around the world since we were children. Mary returned to graduate school in the 90’s to learn more about marine biology and taught hundreds of elementary through high school students to recognize the beauty and biodiversity found in our oceans and on our beaches. Simultaneously, as our collections were growing, we developed a deep appreciation for the need for conservation of this essential limited natural resource. With this understanding, we realized the importance of teaching future generations the importance of protecting coral reefs and other ocean habits. Although we loved collecting, we realized the impact of commercialized coral harvesting and unethical collecting of specimens. With a commitment to honoring the origins of our collections, we want to share them with you. We do this through original watercolor paintings, prints and notecards.

Using a palette of accumulated treasures, we design and create objects d’art that combine natural beauty and repurposed flea market finds to deliver unparalleled pieces to inspire your love of the natural world.
